ROLEX SERIAL NUMBERS: How to Date You Rolex Watch

Use this page to determine the date of production for any Rolex watch via their serial number. All Rolex watches will have a serial number, It's just a matter of locating it and using the chart below. All Rolex watches will have originally been presented with a warranty certificate or warranty card on the day of sale. This certificate will show the serial number of the watch. Depending on the age of the watch, it will also display the country code, date or purchase, place of purchase and the original owners details. Early Rolex watches can often be found with the a hand written serial number. Late watches with paper warranty certificates can be found with printed or stamped serial numbers. Model Rolex watches are sold with warranty cards with the serial number printed on one side along with the model number. 



HOW TO FIND THE ROLEX SERIAL NUMBER

Every Rolex watch will have a serial number. This serial number is unique to the watch. Prior to the mid to late 2000's, serial numbers can be found on all Rolex watches engraved between the lugs at the 6 o'clock position. The bracelet will need to be removed from the watch in order to view the serial number. Rolex introduced the engraved inner rehaut in around 2004. Precious metal Rolex watches were the first to feature the engraved inner rehaut with most stainless steel sports models following in 2007 on the Z serial. The engraved inner rehaut featured the serial number of the watch at the 6 o'clock position and was visible through the crystal. Certain military and special order Rolex watches will also have the serial number engraved inside the case back.

Please use this the table of Rolex serial numbers as reference but note that there is no official record of Rolex serial numbers to refer to. There may be inaccuracies amongst the data, especially with the pre 1987 watches with 7 digit serial numbers. However, dates will be accurate to within a year or two.
