MORE INFORMATIONReleased in 1957, the original Omega Speedmaster, the CK2915 featured “Broad Arrow” hands, a 39mm stainless steel case and the familiar three sub-dial layout. Next came the CK2998 with it 40mm case, easier to read bezel and pencil hands. The CK2998 was the first Omega in space as worn on the wrist of Wally Schira during one of America’s Mercury space missions. Next came possiblythe most famous Omega Speedmaster of them all, the ST105.012. This is the Omega Speedmaster worn by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin during the Apollo 11 space mission however it was only Buzz Aldrin who wore the watch on the moon, Neil Armstrong left his watch on the Command Module Columbia.
The Omega Seamaster was launched 1948. The model, when released, was to be a tribute to the 100th anniversary of the company. What made the Seamaster revolutionary at the time was its use of a rubber gasket for its water resistance. The technology was the same used in submarines at that time and remains in use even today. In fact, Omega was so convinced of its waterproof technology that a Seamaster was attached to the outside of a Douglas DC6 aircraft in 1956 on the Polar Route over the North Atlantic. The first Omega Seamasters were dressy affairs, which is what makes them such classic timepieces, suitable for both formal attire and casual wear.
Omega released the Omega Seamaster 300 in 1957 as a trio of "Master" watches which also included the Speedmaster and Railmaster. Unlike previous versions of the Seamaster, the Seamaster 300 was designed for underwater use. The watch went through a redesign in 1964, with an enlarged bezel as well as the case increasing in size overall from 39mm to 42mm, and receiving the twisted bombe lugs still present on most models today. In 1995 Omega replaced Rolex as watch supplier for 007 - James Bond. In the movie Goldeneye, Pierce Brosnan wore the newly released Omega Seamaster 300M 2541.80, complete with its own Helium Escape Valve, quartz movement and distinctive blue "wave" dial and bezel. The link with Omega and 007 continues to this day, most recently with Daniel Craig wearing a titanium Omega Seamaster 300 in the movie No Time to Die.
The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean was released in 2005 with a depth rating double that of the standard Seamaster thanks to the addition of a heluim escape valve fitted to the side the the enlarged case. The original Planet Ocean was available in two sizes, 4mm and 45.5mm and powered by the Omega Co-Axial calibre 2500 automatic movement. A year later a chronograph version was released using the Omega calibre 3133 automatic movement. In 2006 Daniel Craig wore an Omega Planet Ocean with a black rubber strap in the James Bond Movie, Casino Royale. In 2011 Omega updated the Omega Planet Ocean to include a ceramic bezel and an improved calibre 8500 automatic movement.
The Omega Constellation was released 1952 and was the brand’s first mass-produced chronometer wristwatch. The Omega Constellation quickly became the brand’s flagship timepiece. The first Omega Constellation models had bumper movements and distinctive diamond-shaped hour markers on their "Pie Pan" dials. All Omega Constellation models have the Observatory of Geneva with eight stars hand-engraved on the case back. In 1955 the bumper movement was replaced with a more traditional automatic movement.

IS OMEGA AS PRESTIGIOUS AS ROLEX?
Both Omega and Rolex are highly prestigious timepiece makers; between them they dominate the Swiss watch market. Whether you choose Omega or Rolex, you can rest assured that you’re choosing a high-quality, reliable watch.
It surprises some people to learn that Omega has a longer history than Rolex. Omega was first established as a brand during the 19th century in 1894, having pioneered the Swiss watchmaking industry since 1848. Though some people might argue that this makes Omega superior to its competitor, Rolex wasn’t far behind, coming onto the scene in 1904 and earning the first Swiss Certificate of Chronometric Precision.
While the two brands have their advantages and disadvantages, both Rolex and Omega watches for men are built with quality in mind, so investing in them means you can rest assured that they will last for years to come.
We stock a range of second hand Omega and Rolex watches, all in top condition. Our men’s used Omega watch collection includes second hand Omega Speedmaster watches and pre-owned Omega Seamaster watches.
HOW MUCH IS AN OLD OMEGA WATCH WORTH?
If vintage, used Omega watches are kept in good condition, they can be worth very large amounts of money if sold properly and at the right time.
For example, a vintage pre-owned Omega Speedmaster Professional Moon Watch (which is one of the most highly sought-after models) from the 1950’s-60’s can fetch anywhere up to £30,000 at auction today.
If you are a collector and you’d like to view any of our second-hand Omega men’s watches before you make your purchase, we offer in-person viewing appointments at our main office in Fareham, Hampshire. These are by appointment only; contact us to arrange a viewing appointment now.
DO OMEGA WATCHES HOLD THEIR VALUE?
Generally speaking, Omega watches depreciate in value after they are first purchased new, with estimates saying this depreciation is around 30-40% in the first year.
But pre-owned Omega watches hold their value if they are kept in good condition. This means keeping them in clean, working condition.
If you are a Swiss Watch collector, and you want to keep hold of your vintage Omega watch for a number of years in hopes of auctioning it, you are advised to keep your watch in its case and store in a temperature-regulated area that’s away from moisture.
Many of our Swiss watches have been bought by collectors and antique dealers over the years. We are proud to hold a range of mint condition vintage Omega watches in our UK office, including the Omega Seamaster 300 and the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra.
WHAT IS THE BEST VINTAGE OMEGA WATCH TO BUY?
There are many varieties of men’s Omega watches that have been designed and produced over the years. Omega has appeared on many Hollywood wrists -- including Elvis Presley and George Clooney -- and has also been a huge motif in the classic Bond franchise.
Because of this, good-quality vintage Omega watches can fetch a fair amount at auction, depending on the model, era and the level of care that has been taken to preserve their original condition.
In terms of the Omega Seamaster, secondhand models that have the most value and are therefore the best to buy for collectors are Devilles, while the best vintage Omega Speedmasters to buy would be the 1980’s or 1990’s Omega Speedmaster professional.
WHAT IS THE CHEAPEST OMEGA WATCH?
Generally, new and second hand Omega watches are more affordable to buy outright than other major Swiss watch brands, like Rolex.
The cheapest Omega watches to buy are the Omega 300M Dive Watch, the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional, or the Omega Seamaster Planet 600M Dive Watch.
However, Swiss Watch Trader stocks a range of affordable options for people who want to buy pre-owned Omega watches without worrying about the price tag.
For example, we offer a range of finance options, which allow you to spread the costs of your chosen watch. You can either choose to place a 10% deposit on the second hand Omega watch of your choice, and spread the payments over 24, 36 or 48 months.
If you prefer, we also offer a 0% APR option over 12 months on all Omega watches for sale for those who want to buy a used Omega watch using credit. Our finance option is subject to status and provided by Klarna.
