Released in 1957, the original Omega Speedmaster, the CK2915 featured “Broad Arrow” hands, a 39mm stainless steel case and the familiar three sub-dial layout. Next came the CK2998 with it 40mm case, easier to read bezel and pencil hands. The CK2998 was the first Omega in space as worn on the wrist of Wally Schira during one of America’s Mercury space missions. Next came possibly the most famous Omega Speedmaster of them all, the ST105.012. This is the Omega Speedmaster worn by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin during the Apollo 11 space mission however it was only Buzz Aldrin who wore the watch on the moon, Neil Armstrong left his watch on the Command Module Columbia.
Released in 1957, the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional has been in production for nearly 70 years. The Speedmaster was the first Omega in space and the first watch to be worn on the moon. The watch has remained largely unchanged and to this day still features a simple manual wind movement - after all, these isn't much point of an automatic watch in space!
In 2013 Omega release the Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon, the first Speedmaster to be crafted from a single block of ceramic material. The watch featured a black ceramic dial with white gold hands and a black nylon strap. The case of the 311.92.44.51.01.003 grew to 44mm and the watch was powered by the Omega calibre 9300 automatic movement. Different variations of the Dark Side of the Moon were subsequently released including the Black Black, Vintage Black, Sedna Black and Pitch Black.
Launched in 2013 the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional “TinTin" with red and white racing dial was a slow seller and was quickly discontinued by Omega. The watch has since found cult status and prices are literally rocketing. The 311.03.42.30.01.004 featured a 42mm stainless steel case with three sub-dial layout and powered by the Omega calibre 1861 manual wind movement. Since being discontinued the the official links between Omega and Tin Tin have all but been confirmed leading to a huge rise in prices.
Launched in 2017, only 2012 examples of the Omega Speedmaster Speedy Tuesday were produced. The watch has since gained a healthy following with collectors and prices are on their way up. Based on the 1978 Alaska Project II, the Speedy Tuesday features a fully brushed 42mm case and a reverse Panda dial.
