ROLEX COSMOGRAPH DAYTONA 116520: 2000 - 2016

The Rolex Daytona 116520 was released in 2000 and available with either black or white dials. The 116520 was the first Rolex Daytona to feature an in house movement. The 116520 is powered in the 4130 automatic movement with chronograph function. The 116520 was only available in stainless steel. The bezel, case and bracelet are identical on both the white and black dial versions. Early versions of the Rolex Daytona 116520 were fitted with what have become know as "thin hands" and these models command a premium on the used and second hand watch market. Throughout the 16 year lifespan of the Rolex Daytona 116520, minor changes and upgrades were made to the dials and bracelet. 

BLACK DIAL VS WHITE DIAL

The choice of which dial to go for on the Rolex Daytona 116520 is not only a matter or taste, it can also be a choice based on budget and even your sight. ROLEX DAYTONA 116520: 4130 MOVEMENT

The Rolex Daytona 116520 was the first Daytona to be fitted with an in house movement. The 116520 was powered by the Rolex calibre 4130. Prior to 2000 the Rolex Daytona was fitted with the heavily modified El Primero movement which Rolex called the 4030.

The 4130 was the result of five years of innovation, refinement, and technical improvement. The 4130 movement features only 201 separate components, a 60% reduction when compared to the El Primero 4030 caliber. In addition to the 4130 being a more reliable and refined movement, the power reserve increased from 50 to 72 hours.
