ROLEX EXPLORER 114270 36MM: Our 5 Minute Review | Swiss Watch Trader

OUR 5 MINUTE REVIEW OF THE ROLEX EXPLORER 114270 36MM

Sit back and read our 5 minute review of the Rolex Explorer 114270. In 2001, Rolex updated the Explorer and released the Rolex Explorer 114270 with calibre 3130 automatic movement. The 114270 was slightly thicker than the 14270 but the 36mm diameter remained the same. The Rolex Explorer 14270 was eventually replaced with the Explorer 214270 in 2010.

ROLEX EXPLORER 114270

Rolex Explorer 114270

In 1953, Sir Edmond Hillary and Tenzing Norgay summited Mount Everest wearing modified Oyster Perpetuals. Neither were actually wearing an Explorer but Rolex were quick to take advantage of this amazing feat of human endurance and launched the 6289. The reference 6530 was the first model to have Explorer on the dial. In 1959 Rolex released the 6610 which had all the classic hallmarks of the Explorer: stainless steel oyster case measuring 36mm, black dial, 3-6-9 numerals, inverted triangle at the 12 and Mercedes-style hands. The model evolved into the 1016 in 1963 which initially had the calibre 1570 movement - later version had the 1570. In 2001, Rolex released the Rolex Explorer 114270. The 114270 received the updated calibre 3130 automatic movement. The 114270 was slightly thicker than the previous Explorer 14270 but the 36mm diameter remained the same. Every Rolex Explorer 114270 was fitted with a "SWISS MADE" dial with superluminova hands and hour markers. All Rolex Explorer 114270 watches were fitted with Oyster bracelets.

ROLEX EXPLORER 114270 - 3130 MOVEMENT:

Rolex Explorer 114270

The Rolex Explorer 14270 is powered by the caliber 3130, an automatic movement with 31 jewels. The calibre 3130 is essentially the same movement as the calibre 3135 that powers the Rolex Submariner 16610 but without a date. The rotor that powers this movement is bidirectional and when fully wound the movement will have a power reserve of 48 hours. It displays seconds, hours and minutes. The calibre 3130 movement can also be found in the Rolex Submariner 14060m
