Sit back and read our 5 minute review of the Rolex GMT Master 16700. The GMT Master 16700 was released by Rolex in 1988 and was initially on sale alongside the slightly more expensive Rolex GMT Master II 16710. The Rolex GMT Master 16700 was eventually discontinued in 1999. Unlike the Rolex GMT Master II 16710, the 16700 was only available with Blue/Red (BLRO) "Pepsi" and or all black (LN) bezel inserts. The Rolex GMT Master 16700 was powered bu the Rolex calibre 3175 automatic movement.
The Rolex GMT Master 16700 was in production from 1988 until 1999 and was available with the iconic red/blue "Pepsi" bezel insert or all black version - the red/black "Coke" bezel was not an option. From launch until 1999, the Rolex GMT Master 16700 was offered alongside the Rolex GMT Master II 16710. The two watches were almost identical however the 16700 was powered by the slightly simpler Rolex calibre 3175 automatic movement without quickset. The GMT Master II 16710 was powered by the Rolex calibre 3185 automatic movement with GMT hand and quickset functions. Most Rolex GMT Master 16700 watches were originally fitted with SWISS T25 dials with tritium hour markers and hands however the very last produced were fitted with "SWISS" only dials.

The Rolex GMT Master 16700 is powered by the caliber 3175, a certified Chronometer with 31 jewels. The calibre 3175 was first announced by Rolex in 1988 and featured an additional GMT hand. This hand was not independently controlled and followed the hour hand at a -2 ratio. The rotor that powers this movement is bidirectional and when fully wound the movement will have a power reserve of 48 hours.
